Dr. Joy Zhou is a faculty member in the Bachelor of Applied Technology (BAT) in Cloud Computing program at Northwest Vista College (NVC). With 20 years of experience in higher education, Dr. Zhou has served in a variety of academic leadership roles including Chair of the Math & Engineering Department (2016–2024) and Coordinator of the Engineering (2013-2016) and Nanotechnology (2007-2013) programs.
She is passionate about helping students develop practical technology skills, earn industry-recognized credentials, and prepare for careers in cloud computing, artificial intelligence, engineering, and other emerging technologies. Dr. Zhou has demonstrated a strong commitment to student engagement and academic excellence through her work as a sponsor of the AI & Cloud Technology Club (Co-Faculty Advisor since 2026), the Engineering Club (Faculty Advisor, 2014–2016), and the Nanotechnology Club (Faculty Advisor, 2009–2013). Under her mentorship, five of her students in the Nanotechnology Program became finalists for the National Science Foundation (NSF) Advanced Technological Education (ATE) Excellence Award in Washington, DC. As a Principal Investigator (PI) for an NSF grant, she has further advanced the field through dedicated research, curriculum development, and program leadership.
